CRITICAL
REVIEW OF PREVIOUS COMPLETED PROJECT
SPATIAL
DESIGN OF CONTEXT
This is a critical review of a
previously completed project called Spatial Design of Context in Level 4. The review is based on 7 from the 24 criteria which i consider to be relevant to my project's basis/context, skills/ activity, creativity/quality of the outcome.
Experience
of design research, analysis & synthesis:

Through
out this project I significally improved my experience and skills on design
research as we had investigated for an architect and analyzed his house
technical drawings and design in order to design our house. This knowledge is
important to me as a learner because for every new project I will have to
research first and then design.
Visualizing/ Prototyping skills &
aptitudes in a range of media & formats:
·
In
Spatial Design of Context project we had to visualizing our house design. By
using Sketch up and Photoshop I made the visual drawings of my house design in
3D on how it will look like in reality. From this part I have developed my
knowledge and skills on visualizing my designs.
Aptitude for design through a digital
platform:
·
In
the process of designing our house we create a portfolio of technical drawings
and visuals. During the project I had improved my skills on drawing technical
drawings on CAD like floor plans, sections and elevations. At this time having
experienced this I’m feeling more experienced on design through a digital
platform and I believe this skill will be useful to me as a practitioner
because I will need it in everything I will design.
Experience of design process &
methodologies:

During
Spatial Design of Context project last year I have improved and developed my
experience of design process and methodologies. For me the most useful aspect
was organized my project in different parts and finished each point after the
other. For example first I started my architect research and then I applied the
architectural principles on my technical drawings and visuals and this leaded
to my final design. Having implied this technique I now feel that I can run
through a design process more efficiency.
Experience of
managing client relationships & Collaboration:

The
project mention to design an urban house for a young professional couple. Their
jobs are also mentioned in the brief. By giving to us the clients I tried to
design a house that would suite to their needs. Through this part I have
experienced to managing client relationships and I believe this understanding
will be essential to me as practitioner as in the future I will design basing
on clients needs.
Experience and understanding of
legislation & regulations:

Every
designer should know about legislation and regulation when designing a house.
In this project I realized and learned to design according to regulations and
legislations. For example we had to
design the house in specific measurement on the site and the house needed to
have a maximum height and width. Having applied these rules I now know that I
should design using regulations and legislations.
Experience of design practice
marketing and promotion:

When
I finished my final house design I created a client board with visual and
technical drawing on it to give an idea to my clients the house will look like
in reality. Over this project I learned how marketing and promotion work. For
example in order to promote my design I created that client board with color
and visual In order to be attractive and interesting to client eyes. I believe
that marketing and promotion is very important to me as interior designer as I
have to promote my design to my clients.

PERSONAL REVIEW- CREATIVE & PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
PERSONAL CPD STATEMENT
During the university years, everyone explores new ideas and elements.
By learning
new things and new methods your skills and knowledge are improved and this
leading you to a more mature and manageable person. During these two years of
studying in the university I have improved my skills and my knowledge in many
aspects. The most significant aspect that I have improved was my aptitude for
design through digital platforms like using CAD for drawing technical drawings
of our designs and Sketch up for visualizing our final ideas and designs. Furthermore,
I became more efficient on researching different topics like design and social
facts however I have to improve more the way I analyzed the things.
The awareness
of diverse and the global range of design cultures and languages are also
included on the improvement of our skills and knowledge on the university.
Except from the educational learning outcomes there are also the social
benefits that you can gain from the university. For example I have significant
improved and developed my knowledge about different cultures and everyday life events,
which differ from each other. This understanding will be useful to me as a
learner and as a person because I will become more social practitioner where I
can collaborate with other people from different countries.
Project and Process
In order a project to continue its process we must have some experiences in some specific aspects. A person should have an experience of design process, on how to work in a team. On my projects I’m trying to put rules and set of working examples in order to complete it in time. I have slightly improved my ability to manage the project process. Some project in the university we have to do them in a group. When I’m working in a team I’m trying to give my best in order to help in the research and in the project process, however sometimes task were not seen as equally difficult by all team members. Furthermore, a professional designer should have an experience of costing projects and fee negotiation. In my projects I’m trying not to exceed the specific budge of the client however I have to get more experience on this specific task as sometimes I exceed it. My experience on planning and managing project activity is good as in every project I’m trying to manage my time efficiently for example what task and what part I have to do everyday in order to complete it in time. Moreover, in our work we need to have experience on managing client relationships and collaboration. I haven’t yet get in touch with a client however I will try to have good relations and cooperation with them in order to achieve their demand. Also I have to get more experience on different and wide range of project types and scale innovation.
Enterprise and Marketing
Marketing is an essential action of promoting and selling products and services in every single market. Interior design industry also needs the marketing strategy in order to promote its projects and work to its clients. At the time I don’t have experience on how to use the design practice marketing and promotion in order to promote my projects to a client, however in the university some project we did we had to create a client presentation board and I tried to make it as attractive with visual drawings and colors in order to look interesting to the client. Furthermore, an interior designer should have the experience of design budgets and accounts management in order the project to do not exceed the specific budget that the client requires. Because I have not yet had a work experience as a next step I need to get a job in the interior design industry in order to get this experience as I will need it for my future job. Moreover, in the enterprise of interior design you should have an experience and understanding of legislation and regulations, as there are many rules and regulations for house and workplace building that an interior designer should take them in mind in order to design a comfortable and safe design of a place for the client. Initially, I don’t have the experience for this specific aspect however with the work experience I will conquest it. In addition I have to get the knowledge and experience in many other aspects that associating with the enterprise and marketing. Some of those is the experience in planning continuing professional development and the knowledge of design sector and creative industries. This knowledge will be important and useful to me as a practitioner as I will need to know how to plan and continue my professional development with different way and how to know the different design sectors and industries.
Values and Vision
The values and vision are included in the enterprise expertise. An interior designer should have vision and awareness of the key design futures and innovation trends. At this time I don’t really have the awareness of the key design future, however am searching on the web for new design trends and ideas. Because the innovation of design trends changes every season as designers we should keep up-to-date for new designs. Furthermore, I have to get more experience and knowledge on the values and vision aspects like the awareness and practice of user centred design and I should start understanding and practice of ethical business standard.
In conclusion I have not yet the
work experience in interior design industry so I have weakness on marketing
aspects and enterprise. As a next step I have to get a job and see how design
sector works in reality. Furthermore, during
the university years I have significantly developed and improve my skills and
knowledge on digital platforms and on research however I have not improved a
lot my ability on perspective and hand drawing therefore I have to work on this
part. From me, the most important experience was learning to work in-group and
share my ideas and tasks with other people in order to complete a project or a
presentation. Finally, I have to improve my weakness in some aspects and become
stronger in order to become a profession interior designer with knowledge and
experience in all aspects.
